This Year’s Adjudicators
Anna Coleman, BA, LSB, RTSCA, Dip Tchg.
Anna has a passion for creating confidence in both children and adults. She teaches speech and drama at Karamu High School in Hastings. She is an SCA experienced adjudicator and Speech New Zealand Oral Assessor.
She moved from Auckland four years ago, to Napier where she founded the Confidence Company and works as a confidence coach. She is a trained executive coach and develops and runs courses. She taught speech and drama at Kings’ School in Auckland for nine years.
Anna started the Hillmac Junior and Intermediate School Speech Contests in Hawke’s Bay four years ago, as a way of boosting confidence and encouraging students to plan and structure their ideas rather than write them out word for word like an essay.
She is thrilled to be involved with the Auckland Speech and Drama Competitions as it is an excellent way to boost confidence.
Steven Arnold, BA, ASB.

Steven Arnold has studied Speech and Drama and holds both LSB (Performance) and LTCL (Teaching), and holds ASB (Public Speaking and Grade 8 (Choral Speaking). He is an Accredited Adjudicator; ANZDA; NZTF Council Member; and holds a BA in drama from University of Canterbury;.
The magic of communication, through language, movement, expression and gesture is a wonderful gift we all share. Telling a story, or sharing a moment is immensely important in our lives. Having effective communication skills is paramount to success in life; sharing with others; listening, interpreting and responding are key features of all relationships. Steven congratulates all who participate in these competitions, as it shows a strength of character to stand up and speak in front of others.
Steven was born in London, UK, but has spent most of his life, in New Zealand: Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and now Auckland. He is currently a University Lecturer and School teacher. He has four siblings, and two children of his own. He enjoys live theatre, playing the piano and telling stories.
